I've been at 99% of every Wise County felony docket calls since 1993. Today we had a record with 71 defendants on the docket. (And that's not every case that is pending.) I've never seen that many before. And it's not from a lack of trying - cases are being disposed of as quickly as I've ever seen.
We just have a lot of cases. (For what it's worth, 25 of those guys were charged with dope and 16 were some form of DWI. )
When I took office as DA 15 years ago,
every case that was pending could be listed on one piece of paper - double spaced. (And it actually
was on a piece of paper since there was only one sometime-working computer in the office.)
