Random Monday Morning Thoughts
- I bailed out of the presidential debates after about 15 minutes of Friday night. It drove me insane - neither guy can answer a direct question.
- I want Congress to reject the newest version of the $700 billion bailout package.
- The CIA was advertising for agents this morning on The Ticket.
- Foul play is suspected in the death of a woman found in her home in Roanoke. I'm always compelled to look at the street in Google's Street View. Here.
- Just heard on the radio that we have a motorcycle related death in Arlington on Cooper street. Edit: Fox 4 has a photo.
- The Cowboy lose while Wade Phillips has a look of bewilderment every time the camera cuts to him.
- In this day and time, I don't think any NFL game qualifies as a "rivalry".
- Tony Romo is 1 and 3 against the Redskins.
- I was in the old Bridgeport High School auditorium on Saturday night for the first time, I believe, since my Senior baccalaureate ceremony. That was fun to just look around the old place. And do they still have baccalaureate ceremonies?
- While you were sleeping: Wachovia Bank was taken over by another bank. Good grief. But I always thought Wachovia had a great idea in making each branch bank look exactly the same but with a unique design -- if that makes any sense.
- I jogged outside on Saturday morning and had a "stop the run" cramp at mile marker four.
- Microsoft's "I'm a PC" commercial would be more effective if everyone said "I use Windows."
- Matt Bryant, the place kicker for Tampa whose three month old son died on Wednesday and who was buried in Texas on Saturday, went 3 for 3 in his game yesterday. I can't imagine.
- I saw a police car blow through downtown Boyd at a reckless speed on Saturday night. (It looked like a local city police car instead of a deputy or trooper but I didn't get a good look at the rocket going by.)
- College football quick hits: Oklahoma is great, A&M almost got beat by a horrible Army team, The Texas/OU game is sizing up to be a barn burner, Nick Saben (coaching Alabama) is a miracle worker, and here is the hit of the year.
- I finished The Innocent Man. It was fantastic and should be required reading for every prosecutor. (And I was surprised to learn that the unrepentant DA in that case - who is still amazingly the DA - sued author John Grisham for defamation. I was not surprised to learn that the lawsuit was thrown out just last week.)
- In the beginning of The Innocent Man, you learn that that the Man was tried twice for rape and found "not guilty" before being wrongfully convicted of murder. There aren't many people in this world that have heard "not guilty" from a jury one time. Almost no one has heard it twice.
- Paul Newman was married to the same woman for over 50 years. And that was his second marriage. And I've never eaten any of his salad dressing.
- I like Rihanna's Disturbia.
- Heather Locklear was arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence of drugs - an arrest which gave rise to a book in photo that looks like a hot girl on drugs. (Little known fact: You can be guilty of DWI after using prescription drugs even if you haven't had a drop of alcohol.)
- Five years ago last weekend I snapped my Achilles tendon.
