It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

They weren't mad at Clark, who had won the County Judge's race at 28 years old, they were mad at the Messenger.  The letters are reproduced here

  • Fox4Terry was working last night. "A wounded man tried to flee his attacker only to crash into a home and die" on Silver City Drive in northwest Fort Worth. (Side note: I like detectives still wearing long-sleeved white shirts with ties.)

    .
  • This is either a problem of one franchise owner -- who owned all five of the theaters -- or a bigger problem. I'm not sure which.

  • It begins.

  • Israel continues its reckless killing. I just don't know why they don't admit that they are fine with killing 100 innocent people if it means they killed one member of Hamas.

  • Not sure I knew this was a federal crime. "Federal authorities said Choi did not obtain the required approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to film the video and he did not have an explosives license or permit from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives." That's a lot of effort for a social media video.

  • He's a whiney guy -- especially for a man who already had one prison conviction pardoned by Trump.

  • I'm not sure I knew they had any women pastors. They are big on 1 Timothy 2.

  • Trump is talking crazier and crazier.  Take him at his word.

  • Legal nerdy stuff: I can't say I'm well versed on this fight involving the Llano Public Library but let's just say the Fifth Circuit had a big judge war yesterday. They returned 8 of 17 removed books. Thread.

  • Legal fun stuff: This is a photo in Yosemite National Park and, yes, there is a federal court there. Explanation

  • Time which has passed since the Wise County Sheriff's Office, despite having a full male DNA profile, has failed to solve the murder of Lauren Whitener in her home at Lake Bridgeport: 4 years and 339 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

It would be a year later when Trump would go down the golden escalator.

  • Anyone want to have your ex-wife and ex-girlfriend to testify in open court about your worst days?

  • It's D-Day. Beware: There are modern day Nazis amongst you.

    • Here's a great Wikipedia article on the only 11 photos of the initial wave of the D-Day invasion.
    • Fox and Friends told us this morning that the 21 Gun Salute that occurred moments ago at the remembrance ceremony in France was based upon the fact that 21 is "what you get when you add up the numbers in 1776." Uh, I don't think that's correct.

  • Holy cow.

  • He's just The Governor Who Does Bits now.

  • The kid barely got six inches in the air before the giraffe let go. Video.

  • Wise County Rep. Ronny Jackson made the news.

  • Hope that office fling was worth it.

  • The Business Second™.  If you think the NFL is big now . . .

  • Messenger - Above the Fold

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

Art Briles and Baylor on the cover of Texas Football before it all came crashing down.

  • This year's cover was revealed Monday. Not exactly a work of art from a design standpoint.

  • I saw this in downtown Decatur yesterday. Is it just a common thing now to see an upside down American flag flying from a pick-up truck? Is this the new normal started by the Insurrection and resurrected by Justice Alito?

  • I doubt this effort to overturn the pardon will go anywhere.  But the best argument is that he can't be pardoned yet because his conviction hadn't even become final (it it was still in the appellate process.)  But, still, this pardon is one of the most shocking events in the history of the Texas criminal justice system. Yet no one really seems to care.

  • We might have us a record hailstone recorded in Swisher County on Sunday.

  • No way! You mean the charade orchestrated by the three headed MAGA crew of Tarrant County DA, Sheriff, and County Judge was all for show?

  • Three years for words? She's already served the time for it, but still. "An Italian court on Wednesday re-convicted Amanda Knox of slander, upholding the only conviction still standing in association with the brutal murder of her roommate in 2007. The Florence court sentenced Knox to three years for slandering Patrick Lumumba, a Congolese bar owner, in a written statement following the murder of Meredith Kercher. Knox is not expected to serve the time, since she served about four years before her murder conviction was overturned."

  • Nothing quite like the son of Billy Graham invoking the 23rd Psalm to Trump after the Stormy Daniels fiasco. We live in Bizarro World.

  • Trump Florida Documents Case: I cannot begin to tell you how insane this is at the trial court level.

  • This settlement is really interesting. The prosecutor receive no money but Netflix did agree to donate $1 million to the Innocence Project. Meanwhile, the director of the film goes scorched earth on the former prosecutor. Link.

  • OU vs. The Evil Empire in the softball college world series starting tonight is delicious.
