It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

I was still posting old Index covers back then. I wrote that I thought it was weird that the funeral home came out to a crime scenes back in the day. Only recently have I learned that they still do on occasion(!)

  • Fox 4 has basically no information about this story other than a couple of facts that they learned from New York public documents, but that one fact is a heck of headline attention grabber.

  • Let me make a dark prediction: There is going to be a major disaster in or right above an airport in the next two years. These close calls happen all the time now.

    • I didn't even mention this slow impact collision at the Atlanta airport two days ago which knocked the tail off a plane

  • The still new County Judge of Tarrant County, Tim O'Hare, who is a MAGA extremist with a history of running local government into the ground, thought he could ramrod through a measure to kill voting locations on college campuses. Last night he was shot down.

  • She bought the vape at a local convenience store (this stuff is sold on every corner). "Kendall endured months of lost wages, court costs, debilitating emotional stress and a state jail felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. That felony remains on her record despite Collin County eventually dropping the case." One of the underreported punishments that the criminal justice system doles out is how some courts and prosecutor offices treat defendants simply by forcing them through the process.

  • If there is one organization that needs to pay more than Fox for the election lies, it's Newsmax.  But, I suppose, since their audience probably totals 1,000, the demation damages should be legally smaller.

  • Trump
    • He wants no part of that disaster again.

    • In a speech last night, he's added geese to "They are eating your dogs; they are eating your cats" lie. Video.  But he's now using "migrant" instead of "illegal immigrants."  It's 1933 Germany all over again.  Migrants are the new Jews.

    • And why exactly did he have nutcase Laura Loomer on his plane while going to the debate and accompany him the next day to Ground Zero? Gift link.  Side note: She called Lindsay Graham "gay" yesterday.

    • Who would have thought these lies about eating cats and doges would have had any consequences?

  • The Business Second™.

  • Texas State almost beat Arizona State last night, but here's a fun fact: There was an extra play that happened after ESPN ended its broadcast.
  • Time which has passed since the Wise County Sheriff's Office, despite having a full male DNA profile, has failed to solve the murder of Lauren Whitener in her home at Lake Bridgeport: 5 years and 70 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

He actually made the news yesterday in a less sensational way. See below.

  • The story doesn't exactly say it, but he sounds like he met the girl online and then went to East Texas to meet her.  He was ambushed with an AR-15.

  • I hope Elon doesn't kill these guys. Edit: He hasn't. Yet. The ten minute "walk" has been successfully completed this morning.

  • Random image from current fires in California -- a state which always seems to be burning.

  • They actually think this is a good idea?

  • "A court-appointed receiver . . .  asked the court in July to have constables escort him to Peterson’s home in the Houston suburb of Missouri City so that he could document the assets that could be sold off. The Texas court approved that request Monday."

  • In reality, no juror should ever be "convinced beyond a reasonable doubt" that the "shaken baby science" is believable, but once they make a decision that they do, it's next to impossible to stop the legal machinery of death in Texas.  Story.

  • That mass shooting was way back in 2019, and the D.A.'s office, which has already had a wholesale turnover, is going to screw that up before all is said and done.  But considering that that the feds already stepped in and achieved "90 consecutive life sentences", what's really the point?

  • Fringe political quick hits:
    • Let's check in on the Fox Business Channel yesterday.

    • Crazy Marjorie Taylor Greene is fighting online with crazy Laura Loomer (who Trump has been hanging out with lately.)

    • JD Vance kind of looks like killer John Wayne Gacy. Right?

  • The Business Second.™ You'll see this headline a lot today, but what's the big deal? The name is changing from the "Campbell's Soup Company" to just "The Campbell’s Company." But the iconic can has just had "Campbell's" at the top of the can in script for decades.

  • I'm not real sure what this means.

  • Overnight, the PAC-12 announced that it is trying to become a bad movie sequel.

  • Messenger - Above the Fold

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

Although news of Ravens player Ray Rice assaulting a woman had come out weeks earlier, it was this week that we learned of, and saw - thanks to TMZ,  the actual shocking video of the incident in the elevator and that the NFL actually had possessed the video all along. I didn't think Roger Goodell would survive that scandal. I was wrong.

  • The debate:
    • Trump gave us what might go down as the weirdest moment in debate history: "In Springfield, they are eating the dogs -- the people that came in. They are eating the cats. They are eating, they are eating pets." And the way he said it made it golden. Video.  When he was fact checked on that hoax, he defended the claim with, "People on television are saying their dogs were eaten."

    • Drudge's reaction after that moment is below.  For that moment overlayed with the theme from Peanuts -- where it lines up perfectly -- see here (it's funny.)

    • His lack of preparation was on full display last night. He thinks he can just "wing it", and he just can't. She baited him time and time again, and fell for it every time.
    • The Trump MAGA extremists were mad at the the ABC moderators for fact checking Trump. They could have done it 100 times, but they did it only three times: Dog eating (a lie), that abortions are occurring after birth (a lie), and that he won the election (a lie.)  In full authoritarian mode this morning, he said that ABC "ought to have their license taken away."
    • Other than denying the election results, Trump also refused to condemn the January 6th insurrectionists, refused to say he wants Ukraine to win the war with Russian, defended his call to execute the innocent Central Park Five, and refused to acknowledge his "good people on both sides" Charlottesville comment saying it had been "debunked by Sean Hannity, Lauren Ingraham, Jesse [Waters]." Other that that, he did great.
    • As to whether he has finally come up with plan to replace Obamacare which he has been promising for years, he said. "I have concepts of a plan."  Video. I may put that on a throw pillow.

    • On denying Kamala's blackness:  "I read where she was not black, that she put out [there]. I'll say that. And then I read that she was black. That's OK. Either one was OK. That's up to her." Video.
  • Taylor Swift activated her army after the debate with an official endorsement of Kamala Harris and signing it as "Childless Cat Lady."

    • Here was Elon's reaction. These people are just weird.

    • Here's Trump reaction to the Taylor Swift news moments after it happened: "I have no idea." (Video.)

  • Someone had a better night last night: An $800 million lottery ticket was sold in Sugarland, Texas.

  • That's one way to remember how things came fast and furious on 9/11.

  • Trump and Kamala Harris shook hands this morning at Ground Zero.

  • From Amarillo:

  • Inflation numbers released moments ago: It is down again.

  • Wise County Judge J.D. Clark is releasing a country album.
